Unto The End is a challenging combat adventure game in the style of a cinematic platformer. The story is simple: get home to your family. Master read-react combat in intense sword fights.
Spot opportunities to trade and use items. An adventure told through your actions, how will you make it home?.
Though it's a small package, Unto the End manages to deliver both an amazing visual experience and surprisingly deep combat systems. You won't want to miss the sort of adventure that will keep you coming back for more punishment, death after death.
Unto the End is a scenic, lonely 2D side-scroller that sets its primary focus on a fixed number of intense battles with its unique combat system that is difficult to learn, but satisfying to master. There is no hand-holding here, though sometimes you might wish there was.
While the sound design is gripping, the platforming is solid, and the puzzle solving is unique, Unto The End unfortunately suffers from a bloated combat system and harsh checkpoints.
Unto the End just wants to punish the player. It feels like it went too far off the deep end of âpurposefully difficult gameâ and ended up in kaizo territory. The challenge here isnât fun, itâs just annoying.
Even with clear intentions and a striking presentation, Unto the End's borderline broken combat mechanics drag the experience down into a spiral of misery.
Iâd say âIâm sorry, Untoâ, but Iâm really not sorry because I hate this sluggish, clumsy little arsehole and I wish heâd stayed dead the first time. Some of you will like him (and itâs worth giving it a go via Game Pass to see if you do). But thatâs your problem now.
