H. P. Lovecraft meets Cyberpunk.
Delve deep into a dystopian world and investigate what is happening to you and your friends in a domed city. Solve puzzles, hack systems and plug in to explore other dimensions. Discover a truth that might tear apart your sanity and question your very existence.
The game's excellent presentation goes wonderfully with its surprising amount of variety. The game might not be scary, but it is thought-provoking and unique, which makes it more than worth a look from narrative adventure fans.
Transient has many interesting qualities that make it stand out as an experience. Sadly, it feels a bit rushed and the gameplay never really moves past just being a vehicle for the narrative. When melding Lovecraft with cyberpunk, Transient focuses on having the former as the core of the story, while using the latter as its shell. It works surprisingly well for the most part, but left me wanting more cyberpunk on a thematic level. Overall, Transient is a title worth playing primarily for those looking for a Lovecraftian experience wrapped in a beautiful cyberpunk package.
Transient is quite a pretty game that manages to mix and match cyberpunk vibes from Observer with some quirky Lovecraftian stuff. But the lack of a coherent storyline, interesting puzzles, and a better motivation for main protagonist to dive deep into past events is sadly hard to ignore. Plus all those references to some old retro classics seems rather out of place here.
Transient had an opportunity to create a unique and exciting experience with its unusual mixture of cyberpunk and H.P. Lovecraft. Sadly, the lack of a coherent story and boring gameplay cause it to fall short of what ultimately might have been. I give it credit for coming to a sort of conclusion after the credits have rolled, but by that point, it was too little, too late.
Cyberpunk and Lovecraft... It's a weird crossover but worth to try. Transient is a good game but it could be better.
Transient deserves recognition for seamlessly concocting a stunning blend of sci-fi and Lovecraftian horror, but it deserves more space to fully come to fruition than what it’s afforded here.
Stormling tells a story with undoubted potential, without however supporting it with a careful management of textual narrative and good game design.
