In the world of Toukiden, Demons (Oni) have hidden in the shadows aiming to torment mankind. Throughout history, a secret caste of warriors, the Slayers, have been trained to dispose of the demonic threat before it could consume the world. However, an event called the ‘Awakening’ caused rifts to appear in space and time, causing places that had long disappeared from the world to resurface, unleashing hordes of demons that relentlessly hunted humans.
The true value of Toukiden, and now Kiwami, is the sheer respect and love for Japanese heritage that drips through its atmosphere.
A really good expansion of the classic action adventure Toukiden for both PS Vita and PS4. A mess of battles, RPG elements and cooperative modes awaits you.
Toukiden: Kiwami adds on to an already good game with more content, more gameplay variety, and some proper multiplayer that really rounds out this package.
More like an expansion set than a new game, but with a huge amount of content that justifies its existence.
If you're aching for a good hunting game on your PS4, Toukiden Kiwami can be the right choice, especially if you didn't have a chance to play the last year's game on PSVita.
Toukiden: Kiwami has an intricate and expansive system of armour, weapons, mitama and power-ups to keep the gameplay interesting. That said, I couldn’t help but feel that the amount of button mashing was excessive considering the detail put elsewhere.
Yes, it is bigger than the original Toukiden. And it doesn’t look to shabby on the PS4. But one major problem remains: The core is nothing but an uninspired Monster Hunter clone.
