The Technomancer is a sci-fi RPG that offers players plenty of dynamic combat action based on 4 skill trees dedicated to 3 combat styles and the destructive electrical powers of The Technomancer PS4s. Technomancers are “mage-warriors” who can use their innate ability to harness destructive electrical powers enhanced by their cybernetic implants. Respected and feared by all, they are formidable warriors who have been trained to fight from an early age.
But you can’t resolve every situation with brute force alone in The Technomancer; a dynamic dialog system plays a major role in the quests, enabling the player to alter the course of the plot depending on his decisions. Craft equipment, weapons and armour for yourself and to equip the companions you recruit as you progress through your adventure and with whom you will form friendships, romances and even intense rivalries. The player is fleeing for his life with the secret police on his tail.
He must confront the harsh reality of the Red Planet as he embarks on a long quest that will lead him through the refuges of the tribal communities on Mars, cities buried under the ice and the dystopian slums that have grown up around the few remaining cities.
The team writes intelligent, worthy scenarios and narratives, and then they do the best they can to build gameplay to support that concept.
The Technomancer tries hard to grab some originality in a very congested genre market. While it doesn't always stand out on its own, it does enough with a familiar formula and a solid story to make it more than worth your time. The Techomancer's tale is certainly one worth telling.
Filled with goodwill, The Technomancer is one of the best RPG from Spiders, but the overall quality and the lack of budget take their toll on the final result which only offers a mild feeling.
The Technomancer is an ambitious sci-fi RPG limited by the realities of budgets. Fun and intriguing, but lacking polish and certain genre staples.
The Technomancer might have been the beginning of a new and fresh role playing-series in the hands of a more experienced developer, like Bioware. It's a game worth playing for its story and setting, but the game's full potential is never realized.
Good for a fight, dull for everything else. [Issue#176, p.81]
The developer's ambition to make a triple-A title without the resources of a larger studio gets the better of them.
