The Assembly is a first-person interactive drama for mature audiences, created from the ground up for virtual reality headsets. An experience with two sides to everything, where the truth is never clear, and a question is always left open: When does the end justify the means?.
The way in which its story unravels alongside Caleb and Madeleine's motivations will fascinate you throughout the game and potentially even have you asking what's right and wrong as you progress towards the end.
I’ve had a great story experience with The Assembly. It’s got a wonderful central premise that it explores beautifully, with a world that is full of integrity and intrigue. The sections revolving around Dr Stone are the more successful of the two, with brilliant puzzles and superb conundrums. The game finishes way too early, just as it feels like it’s really starting to find its feet, but maybe that’s okay when you take in the price.
The Assembly delivers an atmospheric and intriguing first person adventure, but with too many pop-in and texture loading problems and a quite uninspired and inconclusive story.
The Assembly is a great experience far less interesting without a virtual reality device than with it, but it still offers an interesting plot and a fascinating story line in a worthy playable experience.
The Assembly on Xbox One is a technically proficient decent walking sim, with great graphics, voice acting and surprisingly superior immersion for a low budget version of a VR experience. That said, the story in any walking sim really needs to be the main feature. It's unfortunate then that The Assembly is something of a snore-fest.
The Assembly fails trying to keep the player's interest due to its extremely slow rhythm and the repetitive gameplay system. Good story, weak controls & targets.
A well-made game that manages to perfect the technique of parallel narrative and offers a very different type of graphical adventure. It is a shame that the game only lasts 3 hours. In addition, it is noticeable that it is created for virtual reality, something that can be an obstacle for console players. Anyway, The Assembly is a good bet for those who enjoy the genre.
