A scrappy, unfulfilling brawler that's nevertheless quite difficult to dislike despite itself. [Aug 2016, p.70]
Combat system is overly simplistic; the most difficult trick here is precise parrying with a follow-up counterattack. Other than that, it’s all about button-mashing – which would be fine for a half-hour arcade title, but not for a six-hour game. And it’s so painfully slow: although each bad guy is getting punched by eight green fists simultaneously, health bars barely tick down.
TMNT Mutants in Manhattan doesn't have the usual solid, challenging and frantic Platinum Games mechanics. It's too simple in combat system and has poor and repetitive enemy waves. However, it's better in coop mode and has good bosses.
It seems the developers were hard pressed to release the game before the movie's premiere. This kind of rush never ends well.
You will need three friends to play online with if you want to somewhat enjoy the very derivative, bland and fundamentally broken action game TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan is. Single playing is simply a chore and it's hard to fathom how this was even possible considering the license in question and the amazing gameplay Transformers: Devastation had.
The new TMNT is a repetitive slog that is nowhere near the greatness of original comic nor cartoons and it's a real shame that Platinum Games let such an unpolished game out of their door.
