New characters from the popular game series Ratchet & Clank make an appearance. Hailing from the Solana Galaxy, Ratchet Bomber is here with his trusty pal Clank strapped to his back. It’s time to save a whole new galaxy as the duo team up to bring their own brand of destruction to Super Bomberman R.
Super Bomberman R is also available on Nintendo Switch, PC & PS4.
Super Bomberman R brings back the classic Bomberman formula and implements some interesting mechanics to shake up the fields of play. The game offers a decent campaign and supports both local and online play across a range of fun PvP game modes. With some poor voice acting and awkward camera issues to the side, this is one party-battle game that you should definitely have on your radar.
Super Bomberman R brings back the series' popular and addictive gameplay, with tons of contents and some new features. Lots of contents are blocked behind overly high coin amounts though, making even unlocking a single level or character a too lengthy grind.
Overall Super Bomberman R is a great take on the classic formula. I enjoyed what it delivered and the extra characters add that nostalgia meter rise for me. I just wish Konami was bringing them to more franchises outside of this one. Still, this game serves its purpose and it is nice to finally see it on other consoles outside of the Switch.
With the patched controls and neat bonus content this is the solid party game that it should have been on Switch already.
Super Bomberman R isn't the best game in the series but it offers a fun and entertaining challenge for all fans, especially in its multiplayer mode.
Super Bomberman R is just a bit of a non-starter. The lacklustre campaign is only good to hold your attention for so long and the modes that really matter are criminally held back by a low player count.
Overall, I think Super Bomberman R falls short as a complete package. The single-player, while reaching for something a bit different with level design (and it achieves it), falls short with uninteresting bosses and slow enemies. The online play of the game is only good on a local level, while the actual online gaming experience is hindered by the lack of players and atrocious delay.
