Submerged is a 3rd-person, combat-free game in which the gamer explores a mysterious, flooded city and discovers the beauty of desolation in vast outdoor environments. She takes on the role of Miku, a young girl who has brought her wounded brother to the city in their small fishing boat.
On the whole, I think it's worth it, since Subdmerged's world is absolutely gorgeous, and it's relaxing to just drift along on the current as dolphins and sting rays and whales swim by. If you want a deeper, meatier experience, though, you'd probably be better served looking elsewhere, because this game just doesn't have that.
A game of two parts, one that makes you feel so relaxed within its world and another that just about works, but feels like it doesn’t quite belong in this experience.
Born from a valid and interesting idea, Submerged lacks in execution bringing us a scarcely detailed and too repetitive world, even if it can deliver some stunning panoramas.
I enjoyed what it did for the time it took me to finish the story, but for players looking for more substance, there are other games out there that offer more.
There's just an overall lack of subtlety, from the controls to the music, to the story-telling. [Issue#166, p.100]
This is more disappointing than a pearl-less oyster. [Oct 2015, p.74]
A failure on essentially every front, Submerged is likely best left at the bottom of the ocean its overgrown setting takes place in, which is truly a shame.
