The action of the Sniper Elite 3 shooter takes place in Africa during World War II. It is the third episode of the popular shooter series from Rebellion studio. Similarly to its predecessors, the action of the game takes place during World War II.
This time however, authors decided to refrain from european location, instead they placed the game in the african regions. The main character however stayed the same. Probably, the role will be taken again by Karl Fishburne, working as a sharpshooter for the command of the United States Armed Forces.
Sniper Elite III: Afrika Korps brings back the trademark of the series, the extensive sniper mechanics. An already known patent – the X-Ray Kill Cam – will be used here as well. It is the X-Ray vision which allows us to see the bullet rip through our opponent's body.
On higher levels of difficulty, the game mechanics makes the wind and gravity influece the bullet trajectory.
A pretty good game. From large game levels and lots of extra tasks to that non-linear approach to how you can complete said tasks and the ability to play the whole campaign cooperatively, there really is a lot to like.
It’s worth the price tag for the borderline ridiculous long-range shots you can pull off, but the campaign isn’t so good that I’d want to play through it a second time right away.
Sniper Elite III sees the franchise creep closer to excellence. It doesn't quite get there, but nonetheless this is a solid title that has arrived in a particularly lean month.
Sniper Elite 3’s focus on marksmanship over direct confrontation is admirable, but its lack of polish or any real personality keep it from standing out.
If you live for the glory of the kill, Sniper Elite III is the game for you, just don't expect it to be routinely enjoyable. It can get a bit heavy. [Issue#114, p.72]
Sniper Elite III continues to evolve the series and it’s evident that Rebellion have attempted to open up the franchise, offering more freedom. Unfortunately this comes at the cost of a pure sniping experience – something most will be looking for, given the title.
Sniper Elite 3 is an average game. The sneaking around, hiding, scouting and tactical aspects are very enjoyable. But it gets repetitive pretty fast, especially when the actual gameplay and the enemies don't really change.
