The old gods have forgotten this land. No one could save our people when darkness started spreading and collecting human souls for its army. Odallus is a classic exploration/action game, inspired by Ghosts’n Goblins, Demon’s Crest and Castlevania.
Player takes place of Haggis, a warrior tired of fight who must wield his sword once more to rescue his son from Darkness.
Regardless of a few minor gripes, Odallus: The Dark Call is a worthy addition to any metroidvania fan's library and is worth the asking price.
Odallus: The Dark Call is a great adventure game that hearkens back to the 8-bit era. Combat is fun, and there's a good balance to the difficulty; bosses, save for the final one, can be defeated once you know their patterns.
Odallus gives players a sense of nostalgia while bringing it’s own flavour to the table. This medieval fantasy game is challenging, pretty, and most importantly, fun.
Odallus is a game that wants to bring back the feeling of the first Castlevania but that's it. There's no innovation here, just the good ol' gameplay and MSX visuals. If that's what you want, it won't disappoint.
Odallus manages to capture the 8-bit feeling of early Castlevania games, without resorting in simple copy-paste techniques. On the other hand it could be benefited from more stages and a more firm decision over how difficult or easy it wants to be.
Strong on nostalgia and challenge, Odallus is a title that will obviously be appreciated by those who loved the NES era, and enjoy technical gameplay and inspired pixel art.
