Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) is the first game developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people. Nearly 40 Alaska Native elders, storytellers and community members contributed to the development of the game. Play as a young Iñupiat girl and an arctic fox as they set out to find the source of the eternal blizzard which threatens the survival of everything they have ever known.
Guide both characters in single-player mode or play cooperatively with a friend or family member as you trek through frozen tundra, leap across treacherous ice floes, swim through underwater ice caverns, and face numerous enemies both strange and familiar in the journey to save the girl’s village. In this atmospheric puzzle platformer, you will explore awe-inspiring environments, perform heroic deeds, and meet legendary characters from Iñupiaq stories — all narrated by a master storyteller in the spoken Iñupiaq language.
Never Alone is also available on XBox One.
Never Alone is a glimpse into the real lives of Alaska Natives, and it's a peek at a different kind of fairy tale.
Half-platform, half-documentary Never Alone uses videogames as an expressive medium to get us in touch with a civilization that has been dealing with nature's hardships for centuries. If you choose to ignore its short duration, you will find that you will learn a valuable lesson or two from its simple yet effective storytelling.
Never Alone is quite a short game, but its charm, coupled with the opportunity to explore a culture you might not know much about, makes it utterly captivating.
A jump and run with puzzles. Average gameplay, but great story and atmosphere.
A nice and interesting experiment, even though it's a bit expensive.
With a game like Never Alone, the grade system has its limits. Anyone who will be transported by this timeless story, escaped from a storybook, will probably forgive the various gameplay issues... the others probably won't.
Frequent and infrequent players alike should avoid it, for no amount of narrative sincerity makes up for this exercise in mechanical frustration.
