With its focus on being true to the motocross sport, MXGP3 offers a surprising amount of depth to its control and riding finesse. While it may not have much to offer to bring in new fans, those that enjoy riding a 250cc bike in the mud will certainly appreciate the best entry in the series to date.

With the (long overdue) change from proprietary to Unreal Engine, MXGP 3 improves on every level to its predecessor. Finally Milestone can show the vision they had in mind from the start.

It’s evident MXGP3 is not an AAA racing game. With 22 people on small dirt tracks, the races are often fast-paced and exciting and the bike physics add a surprisingly realistic touch. Unfortunately, with its so-so graphics and lackluster game modes, the rest of the experience feels somewhat rushed and unpolished.

Despite some issues that will turn off many regular gamers, MXGP3 makes great use of the official licensing and will certainly please fans of the sport.

It seems that Milestone was not quite sure where to go with this one. MXGP3 can be a very difficult sim racer totally unsuitable for casual gamers, or a bland arcade racer when you turn on the driving assists. And none of these two faces of the game really works.

MXGP 3, made in 2017, is almost imperceptibly different from the first entry in the series, released in 2014. Sure there a few differences, but at its deepest, this is a game that has a truckload of issues when it comes to the actual feeling of riding a dirt bike. Add to that a feature list that is seemingly identical to MXGP 2, now with very poorly implemented dynamic weather, and you get very little bang for your buck. Milestone needs to take a step back and reassess where this series is going, because right now the only place it’s going is backwards.
