Tee off with family and friends in the biggest Mario Golf game yet. Hit the green with up to four players locally* or online** and golf with familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters. Modes range from Standard Golf to the energetic Speed Golf and an RPG-like golf adventure in story mode.
Intuitive motion or button controls, a shot gauge that adapts to the curve of the course, and other new features make it easy for both new players and seasoned pros to drive and putt with power. Swing simultaneously and make a break for the ball in Speed Golf Tee off at the same time with up to three other players* and race through the course to get your ball in first. Outpace and interrupt your opponents with dashes and special shots.
Luigi, for example, can freeze the green and King Bob-omb can pelt the course with bombs. Rise through the ranks of golf training in story mode Enroll your Mii™ character in golf training in a prestigious country club and go from rookie to pro! You’ll face off against your Mushroom Kingdom classmates and earn experience points. Level up to improve your character’s stats like power, movement, and spin.
You can bring your character (and their customized stats) into other modes, too!.
With its frantic new modes and spot-on gameplay, playing Mario Golf: Super Rush is the most amount of fun I've had with a sports game in a very long time. Throw in that iconic Nintendo charm and comprehensive multiplayer and you're left with a hole-in-one.
Quotation forthcoming.
Rather than playing safe with the same, proven method, Mario Golf : Super Rush addresses the notion - if not the issue - of pace through a more dynamic approach carried by the new spin system and the optional addition of running between shots, wholly integrated into the environments' ingenious architecture. While such speedy, bumpy or even battling formula may disrupt some calm purists because of the constant pressure, it orientation towards multi player competition and online bursts shows Camelot's very own vision of this sport.
We were expecting more.
A lack of content holds Mario Golf Super Rush back, but purely mechanically and in terms of design, it stands as one of Mario's best sports game outings in a very long time.
Despite its short-comings, Golf Adventure is a wonderful iteration of past Mario sports RPG modes, and it stands as a definite highlight within a mediocre golf bag of lie-filled scorecards and broken tees. Mario Golf: Super Rush takes years of practice at the driving range and blasts a tee shot into the air, only to see it curve far to the right and into an unsuspecting water hazard. It should have been a culmination of the home and handheld versions of Mario Golf, and instead it largely squanders that potential. Only time will tell if content drops for the game will bring it up to par. For now, you’ll have to play it as it lies.
It's rare to play a Nintendo game that feels so fundamentally misguided. [Issue#361, p.118]
