Create your World. In ancient times, the world was saved from destruction by sealing locations and events within magical artifacts. Now, you have the chance to recreate this world as you desire by discovering artifacts, placing them, and exploring the mysteries inside.
> Construct a unique world map and story by carefully placing artifacts > Explore areas in any order, encountering nearly 70 different gameplay scenarios > Battle enemies in real-time with special attacks and customizable controls > Control every aspect of your new world: raise faithful pet monsters, create powerful golems, forge mighty weapons, and refine magical instruments > Adventure with a friend by having tyem importing their Legend of Mana character from a MEMORY CARD, or take control of an NPC.
Legend of Mana is unique within the Mana series, providing an immense amount of freedom in its gameplay. The therapeutic sandplay feel of the Land Make system allows the player to experience a unique and refreshing world. The newly arranged music allows the player to appreciate the environment and atmosphere to an even deeper extent than before. That being said, it’s too bad that issues of the original such as the confusing map display and story progression weren’t addressed.
The Legend of Mana of 2021 is as close to the original version as you could hope for while still bringing this classic original PlayStation JRPG into the modern era. The sprite work is timeless, and the newly redrawn widescreen backgrounds are just perfect. Legend of Mana is a game I just want to look at and absorb into my eyes as much as I want to play it… maybe even moreso, because while combat holds up, the old-school structure of its story makes it a little tougher to recommend unless you’re going to play with a walkthrough guide open on your phone the whole time. I enjoyed my time with Legend of Mana, don't get me wrong, but wandering through its world from one unconnected quest to the next makes reaching the end feel like a very long guessing game – and there’s little or nothing that can be done to remedy that without fundamentally altering the DNA of Legend of Mana.
Legend of Mana will continue to divide, but if you haven't, now might be the time to let yourself be wowed by its enchanting art direction and endearing world.
The game is fun and does have some moments that made me genuinely laugh out loud. Legend of Mana isn’t perfect and can get a little bit monotonous in the combat sections, but the story has a lot of heart. If you’re a fan of JRPGs then there’s probably a little something in here to interest you.
