War never ends… In the aftermath of The Great War, the world is in chaos and borders are being redrawn. Usonia wants to make the 20th century “America’s Century” while an old enemy in the shadows tries to seize power. New Campaign Experience a full new Iron Harvest campaign in single player or side-by-side in co-op in 7 challenging missions with over 25 minutes of new cinematics and dozens of new allies and enemies.
New Faction: Usonia The American Union of Usonia stayed out of the Great War and became an economic and military powerhouse, unnoticed by Europe’s old elites. Usonia could become a beacon of hope for the oppressed, bringing freedom and justice to everyone, or it could succumb to the temptations of power and become a new empire, ruling with an iron first. The addon features the new faction “Usonia”, the 1920+ version of the US.
More than 30 new infantry units, mechs and buildings for these factions. New Unit Type: Air Units! Take to the sky and conquer the world with the introduction of new airship units for all factions. These early flying machines come in different classes, from the agile sky bike to the colossal battleship of the Usonian hero Admiral Mason, traversing any terrain and sending death from above.
The bravest of men become Paratroopers who perform dangerous missions behind enemy lines. Adapt your strategies and prepare your defenses with new anti – air mechanics for all Iron Harvest factions!.
Iron Harvest: Operation Eagle is a challenging DLC to a fun RTS game. Even though it can be played as a stand alone title Iron Harvest: Operation Eagle works best when accompanied by the main title Iron Harvest. The introduction of Ursonia and their campaign is a solid addition, even if adding aerial units to the game hurts its overall gameplay. The campaign story alone is worth the price of entry.
The new air units fit in well with the game mechanics. Superb new campaign, yet inferior cutscenes compared to the main game.
I love this world; the actual battlefields are beautiful upon spawning in. From the lighting to the landscapes the artists on this team have truly given us some spectacular looking playgrounds. Some of the best I’ve seen in an RTS game, sadly by the time the battle is over they will resemble a scarred warzone but still no less beautiful. The characters in the Usonia campaign were very well done, which was helped by excellent cutscenes and voice over artists. I am now playing through the main story in order to fill in some of these holes I have by starting with the DLC campaign, but I am loving every moment of it so far. I am so happy to return to my love of RTS games and found that in my absence the genre has grown and changed in a fantastic and wonderful way.
If you’ve got a taste of blood and metal in your mouth and have a fever for retro-futuristic patriotism, look no further. Operation Eagle soars when it comes to getting a shot of pure freedom juice in our favorite full-metal mech warfare. While somewhat short and a bit heavy-handed getting you ready for the fights ahead, it does its best to be a shining example of quality DLC to an already awesome RTS game.
With the same stellar visual design as the main game, Iron Harvest: Operation Eagle is a welcome addition to the dieselpunk RTS. The new Usonia faction looks fantastic and is fun to play, even if the marquee feature of airships is a bit lackluster in action. Its story campaign is what really makes it stand out, with interesting classic-style RTS missions interspersed with a look into a fascinating alternate history where giant robots smash stuff.
Operation Eagle adds new pieces to the board but has trouble justifying their existence outside of a challenging new campaign.
