Immortal Redneck is a FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with a rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet procedural dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.
Immortal Redneck is also available on PS4.
Immortal Redneck is a funny link of oldschool shooting games with roguelike style. Hand-crafted well-made combination is an invitation for players who may not be interested in the game if wasn't for both its features.
Immortal Redneck is an absolutely fantastic FPS-roguelike. Thereâs a lot of care in its room design, the enemies all have their own distinct style making it easy to identify the most threatening one in any situation, the action is fast and powerful and the whole game looks fantastic. The difficulty is tuned high but thereâs plenty of room for growth, both from learning the enemiesâ patterns and from buying upgrades for permanent character progression. Choosing a patron deity at the start of the run makes each round play a little differently than the previous one, and when coupled with the powerups found along the way youâll have a unique character by the time you either get killed off or somehow survive the traps and creatures of the pyramid. Itâs a long way to the top and each floor is more concentrated than the last, but thereâs plenty of great shooting on the way to the boss fight at the apex. Then there are still two more pyramids to fight through, because if thereâs one thing an immortal redneck loves, itâs when the shooting gets completely out of hand.
Itâs all very cheerful, friendly, cute. Fat pharaohs and stubby boars and hopping sarcophagi spitting out midget mummies and some sort of weird Cirque du Soleil gymnasts hanging from ceiling poles shooting fire and dog-headed archers and hordes of hopping toads. Dopey, but self-aware dopey. Polished. Slick. Smart. In other words, not what youâd expect from something with the word âredneckâ in the title.
This FPS brings lots of action and very frenetic game in order to create a very good indie that is worth a try.
A good classic FPS, frenetic and full of action, with certain problems of repetition and a sense of progress that make the experience worse. You'll like it if you love roguelike style games.
Immortal Redneck requires some stubbornness at the beginning and its repetitiveness might be annoying if you get stuck in one pyramid but once the just one more pyramid syndrome kicked in, I had some decent fun. [07/2017, p.50]
A fun, simple game, let down by misguided design decisions.
