The godsâ torturous rule over humanity has lasted for millennia. Bent on cruelty and suffering, they demand to be served with blind worship through an oath of fealty pledged from every man, woman and child. To those who don't submit to the godsâ will; a slow and merciless death awaits.
This is a game that can absorb your time if you let it but itâs easy to jump in and play as well, I believe Gods Will Fall has delivered on its promise and then some, and in doing so has claimed its own individual spot in the market, a game truly like no other. I will definitely enjoy the Platinum hunt for this one.
Gods Will Fall delivers on its promise of being easy to pick up but hard to master, and the creativity in its complimentary gameplay systems and how they interact with one another completely won me over. You actually feel as if every decision you make matters whether that's which warrior to send in, if you should use that last item, or whether you should seek out another enemy to build up some bloodlust. All of those decisions can lead to failure or victory, and regardless of which you achieve, you'll likely be coming back for more.
Youâll likely have a really good time with Gods Will Fall. Straight up, itâs a good game. A lack of polish keeps it from being a great game, but thereâs still plenty of fun to be had here.
Gods Will Fall's approach is really good (and very original, within its genre), but it falls on deaf ears due to too repetitive mechanics. If you are patient you will be able to enjoy it ... Otherwise, these are not your gods.
I enjoy the challenge of rogue-like games, but Gods Will Fall feels more frustrating than it does challenging. The gameâs design really stacks things against you, to the point where it just doesnât seem worth the effort. Youâre better off seeking challenging gameplay entertainment elsewhere.
Gods Will Fall tries to formulate a dungeon crawler based on the principles of Roguelikes and Soulslike. Although the idea is good, both narrative and gameplay, some fundamental elements of the genre don't quite hit the mark, leaving Clever Beans a few notches lower than what it could be. Many of the problems can be resolved with some patches and by adding new content, which would certainly improve the experience. We'll be waiting, but for now, you can't help getting the feeling of an opportunity missed.
Games built entirely around boss battles can be great. Furi is popular for a reason. Gods Will Fall might have been better served if that was the route they went. Instead, itâs bogged down with levels that, while artistically solid, weigh on the entire experience. Thereâs one group of folks that should check this out: students of game design. This is not along the lines of âha ha, this game sucks so bad everybody should see it.â This isnât Ride to Hell: Retribution. Instead, people much smarter than this reviewer will be able to thoughtfully debate and discuss what didnât work, why certain things didnât work, and learn from this. God Will Fall is mostly tedious, but it comes from an honest place with real effort. Clever Beans has the talent and potential to create a fantastic title. Their first swing, though, isnât it.
