Imagine a place where everything that is lost and forgotten goes; old toys, letters, single socks. The Forgotten Lands is a magical world inhabited by Forgotlings; creatures composed of mislaid objects longing to be remembered again. Forgotton Anne is a seamless cinematic adventure game with light puzzle platforming elements.
You play as Anne, the enforcer who keeps order in the Forgotten Lands, as she sets out to quash a rebellion that might prevent her master, Bonku, and herself from returning to the human worldâŠ.
Forgotton Anne is also available on XBox One.
Forgotton Anne is a wholly unique and evocative experience. While it delivers on the selling point of the beautiful hand-drawn anime art style, it backs it up with fantastic story and engaging gameplay. This is truly something special we have here, something that must be explored by anyone who can get their hands on the game.
A game that knows its roots but is willing to try something new as well. It takes the darker aspects of Spirited Away â because, letâs be honest, itâs kind of terrifying to see your parents transform into animals and then find yourself whisked away to another world with no way home â and explores them. And it does so with a lot of style.
For parents looking for a new game to play with their children or for anyone who with an abiding love of sweet-tempered cartoons âForgotton Anneâ deserves a look.
With an engaging plot that's as much a commentary on consumerism as it is a tale of morality, Forgotton Anne's inspired narrative is backed up by some solid and engaging gameplay. [Issue#200, p.74]
Forgotten Anne isnât revolutionnary in any way but still, it finds a good balance between narration and gameplay and brings the player in a unforgottable journey.
Forgotton Anne is good at telling a story, and creating a new world filled with magical things. The hand-painted art style and the background music are remarkable, and the puzzle part has some strengths too. However, the handling feel of this game is not satisfactory enough, which kind of reminds me the original version of Prince of Persia.
In all likelihood, we'll remember its delightful world for some time. In future years, we may even enjoy the few fuzzy memories of Forgotton Anne that linger. For now, however, they're tinged with disappointment. [July 2018, p.114]
