Epic Car Factory is an industry simulator that will allow us to assume the role of manager of our own automotive company. We will be responsible for developing, building and marketing vehicles for the entire global market. We will have to compete against the rest of the companies for our market share, invest in R&D to manufacture more efficiently and, in short, try to make manufacturing processes cheaper in order to reduce the final price of our vehicles and attract more customers.
We will also have to take care of recruiting staff, hiring qualified people for each position, focusing on the right projects, researching the right parts, deciding which customers to demand and making the tough decisions. Your business will succeed or fail based on the decisions we make. We will have about 70 types of vehicles available for research, each with 24 different parts with 5 different quality levels, giving us hundreds of thousands of possible combinations.
Also the workers will be very different from each other, with unique specialization positions difficult to fill and much more.
It is difficult to find a more realistic economy simulator than this. All focus is on the core of how a market works, rather than to make it work well as a videogame. The result is a fantastic experience for those who are looking for just that, but few others will do so, and that is fine as Epic Car Factory never claims to do anything else. If this sounds appealing, this is certainly a game to get. If not, it is very unlikely that trying the game out will change anything. It is great for its audience, but not too many others.
It’s like Epic Car Factory is the first half of a complete game, or even the first third. There’s really not that much game here. Putting the same four car components into a bowl and waiting for something to come out on the other end is barely a game. I guess you could roleplay a bit - design your car, start up Factorio or Production Line and pretend to manufacture the car there. As it stands, Epic Car Factory is more like... Car.
