Left behind along with cargo Detached from an enormous Class B Trawler, Big Zoe, you must make your way through an abandoned space station before you run out of resources. Equipped with only an advanced EVA spacesuit, your skill in zero gravity flight will be tested.
Detached has great elements to it, it looks good, the controls are excellent, and it offers some unique combat gameplay. It can feel spartan at times though and will really be hampered if there aren’t enough players for the PvP mode, which would really be a shame.
Well… if you are quick to feel sick in VR then I’d just say stay well clear of Detached… you won’t get much use before you swap your headset for a bucket. If you have a hardier stomach and want some time to yourself in space… this might just be the thing for you. Keep an eye on sales and if there are any expansions for the best option.
Unless there’s a nausea-based update I’m not sure I’d ever go back to play Detached again and it’s definitely not making it into my impress first time VR-users catalogue. In fact, it has instead become my go-to example for how VR standards must be respected and how ignoring them can potentially ruin what might have been an otherwise fantastic experience. I’m not sure I can put it any better than that; great game but unplayable.
Detached is good-looking game that could deliver more of what it does well, but instead bites off much more than it can chew in an effort to fill out functionality. The game primarily suffers from a lackluster single-player mode and a promising but feature-starved 1v1 multiplayer. The biggest barrier of entry is the game's locomotion style which is brutally unforgiving. [Tested with Oculus Touch, HTC Vive]
