From the creative talent behind the genre-defining Burnout series, Dangerous Driving puts aggression back into the racing genre, recapturing the spirit of the past and taking it to a new place. Dangerous Driving XBOX ONE is a game about real driving. The sort of driving you want to do when no one else is looking.
The sort of driving you’d love to do if only everyone else would get OUT OF THE DAMN WAY! This game gives you the chance to live out that fantasy. To floor it in everyday cars, at high speeds, weaving in and out of traffic and slamming the other cars right off the road. This is a game built in the spirit of the classic arcade racing games of the 80’s and 90’s.
It’s about speed, driving skill and beautiful powerslides around epic corners. It’s also about all out aggression, instant retaliation and sweet, sweet revenge. The more dangerously you drive, the faster you can go.
Some aspects of the game and unlock requirements may feel a bit repetitive and tedious, for example if you get left behind in a race, then it’s simply irrecoverable. Restart it. You will however be drawn back and your wins will be fist pump moments.
Dangerous Driving completes Burnout’s revival, but not flawlessly.
Dangerous Driving feels like the little engine that could. When it works, it is a fantastic experience. It felt like Burnout never left. The lack of music and compromised original consoles though really drags it down a notch. I wanted to love this game a lot more than I did, but as it stands it is an incredible throwback to the glory days of Burnout racing. I hope Three Fields eventually gets to where they want to be and makes a true AAA Burnout clone. I would buy it day one. For now Dangerous Driving is the best alternative we have had in years.
Three Fields are doing the gaming community a service by keeping the arcade racing genre alive when the big boys seem to have lost interest. Much like their previous entries, there’s a lot to like here – from the fast, responsive action to the sheer thrill of smashing rivals and reveling in that takedown camera. Sadly, its bare-bones approach to modes, its erratic physics, and its barely improved technical aspects, keep it from reaching the heights of its inspiration.
The spirit of the classic Burnout series is omnipresent. But before the fun kicks into high gear, the highspeed racer is taken down by AI problems or lackluster presentation.
As a Burnout fan, I had high hopes for Dangerous Driving. Unfortunately, Three Fields' effort fails to capture the spirit and feel of its inspiration, and consequently, emerges as a pale imitation.
It’s hard to recommend this to anyone unless you’re sorely desperate for a new Burnout game. If anything, Dangerous Driving might leave you pining for a decent sequel more than ever.
