Experience life from the perspective of a Bee.
Delivers an experience that’s as sweet as honey and buggy in all the right ways. [Issue#186, p.85]
Bee Simulator attempts to educate through play, doing so in a charming, entertaining way. The solo campaign is short but sweet but it effectively highlights the role bee’s play in our ecosystem. Great for younger players due to not only the low difficulty but also the informative nature, I have a feeling even the adults will find more enjoyment here than you may expect.
Bee Simulator on Xbox One works well as a good educational family experience. It will provide small kids with some great characters and a nice story, but should also give them some challenging but rewarding gameplay that is relaxing and fun. For the adults, it might fall a bit short of what is to be expected for a ‘simulator’ – the tasks can be a bit too simplistic, and at times it all feels a bit rough around the edges.
At the very least, it’s made me think twice about swatting any bee that ends up inside the house from now on. Not wasps, though. They can still go right to hell.
Bee Simulator neither excites or frustrates to any extreme degree over the duration of its stay. It's an okay game that might entertain kids or adults interested in bees for a few hours.
Bee Simulator is a somewhat enjoyable game but suffers greatly from horrible flight controls and overly sensitive inputs. Younger children may find it to be an enjoyable game and be able to ignore the overacting of the voice actors. However, it is a game that is educational in teaching players about the world of the honeybee and their importance to nature.
Bee Simulator seems pressed into mixing action elements with educational tools about one of Earth’s most fascinating insects. I don’t decry Varsav Games, and publisher Big Ben Interactive, for trying to tap into this specialized market. But at virtually every turn I was simply going through the motions until completion after the opening half-hour. Whether it’s in respect to the repetitive gameplay structure, unsatisfying flight controls, or deflating brevity, there’s really no reason to see what the buzz is about. Bee Simulator is a well-meaning edutainment game but its honeymoon period is gone at breakneck speed. You’ve bee-n warned, and I’ve run out of puns.
