Originally written as a a novella in the late 1980's, the Heroic Legend of Arslan tells the story of the young crown prince of Pars, Arslan, as he is forced out of his kingdom when his father, the King, is betrayed and defeated and his domain conquered. As Arslan and his few companions must re-assemble an army and fight against overwhelming odds to regain his throne and liberate his kingdom. Through his exploits he reaches emotional maturity, while the series also tackles underlying issues of slavery, religious fanaticism, betrayal and humanity.
The game adaption of this magnificent story seamlessly blends the fast paced tactical action gameplay indicative of the Warriors franchise with a stunningly engaging narrative. using cell-shaped graphics and basing all character design on the anime series Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, delivers a gaming experience designed to fully immerse the player into Arslan's universe!.
Arslan The Warriors of Legend is also available on PC & PS4.
When it comes to my Dynasty Warriors style kicks, I still prefer the much more stylish Dragon Quest Heroes and Hyrule Warriors. However, Arslan is a decent choice in its own right, despite its technical flaws and slightly repetitive gameplay.
Arslan: Warriors of Legend does a great deal more right than it does wrong, but you would likely already need to be fan of the Koei Warriors games to think so.
Under-featured and poorly conceived, this won't appeal to fans of the Warriors games, while Arslan fans [Arsheads?] are better off rewatching the original anime series. [Apr 2016, p.79]
