Alder's Blood is a stealth, tactical turn-based game set in a grim world, where nature stood against humanity and repelled the civilization. Use a wide variety of weapons, stay in shadows and prepare deadly traps to survive in combat!.
The narrative part of this ‘stealth Darkest Dungeon’ is a pleasant surprise – with strong characters, a dark Victorian western vibe and lots of references to Lovecraft’s works. [05/2020, p.84]
Alder's Blood is a tactical-strategy RPG with an incredibly rich story that will have you hooked from the tutorial. Where it lacks a little excitement in combat, it definitely makes up for it with the narrative twists and turns that grab at your collar and refuse to let go. The world of Alder's Blood is dark and unforgiving, but it promises a unique challenge that gives you a sense of accomplishment when you finally emerge on the other side.
Alder's Blood is a functional game, beautiful, but not exceptionally exciting. On one hand, the game looks great and the writing, while clunky, can inspire a bit of wonder. The gameplay is, however, lacking, as you don’t get too attached to your Hunters, and you don’t do much hunting.
A stealth game that cannot provide a satisfying stealth experience. A fighting game that won’t let you fight. The only thing worth your time is the dark story, but you’ll have to suffer in order to see the ending.
The development team behind Alder’s Blood has clearly put a lot of thought into crafting a striking experience, and while the game has style and an engaging core gameplay loop, it’s also so shaky and unpolished we find it hard to recommend.
