The skies over Europe are a dangerous place, where ace pilots lead their squadrons to glorious victory or crushing defeat. Take control of dozens of the most famous fighter planes of WWI and head into the dogfight. Roll, slip, and loop to get the drop on enemy aces.
A simple game with a simple interface that is a delight to play.
We look forward to seeing how this little strategic game will influence the Firaxis' main series. In the meantime we are going to enjoy this little gem.
Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol combines Firaxis’ storied tactics with fast-paced mission design and a user interface that translates well from touchscreen taps to mouse clicks.
It manages to become very addictive, and covers its weaknesses –like the visuals– with a great gameplay.
At its core you’ll find entertaining mechanics. But they are held back by a meaningless campaign and technical issues.
I look at Ace Patrol, and it looks just like a board game, but, why, oh why is it so shallow?
At first, all the mechanics work. The game principle is catching, and it's romantic to fly with the warplanes of the First World War. Nevertheless, the PC game port looks epicene and inappropriate. Its biggest mistakes like repeating of the situations, imbalanced missions, and too much focus on maximize of your score follow its mobile origin. A turn-based strategy game by Sid Meier must be entertaining at any moment. Ace Patrol fails to satisfy this.
