The first graphic adventure by Tim Schafer in sixteen years, Broken Age began two years ago in a historic, record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Now it's here in all its beautiful, 2D, hand-painted glory, with an original orchestral soundtrack and an all-star vocal cast. Broken Age PC is a timeless coming-of-age story of barfing trees and talking spoons.
Vella Tartine and Shay Volta are two teenagers in strangely similar situations, but radically different worlds. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives, and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow. They said adventure games were dead, but then Broken Age punched its hand out of the grave and grabbed you by the wrist and you screamed just like in the end of Carrie except what you screamed was "I love adventure games so much!" And sorry I spoiled the end of Carrie.
Act 1 is available now, and the act 2 conclusion will arrive as a free update later this year!.
Playing through Broken Age brings the player back in time, to the good old graphic adventure days. Double Fine made us wait probably too long, but the final result is a game that you shouldn't miss if you love this kind of videogame.
Overall, Broken Age is a fine game.
Broken Age is a great adventure game with an amazing art style and funny characters.
Solely thanks to its fantastic presentation and the sympathetic characters Broken Age can still warm my heart, but the great love is gone.
Despite long stretches of anger-inducing logic in Act II, Broken Age as a whole is a poignant and clever adventure game that is worth playing through, even if it never lives up to the promise of its midpoint.
The disappointing second half lets it down, but even at best, Broken Age is far from the genre’s greats.
Upon completion it does feel pretty much worth the effort, although even then it is still a little bit confused and there are unanswered questions.
