Mulaka delivers the design, pacing and feel we typically associate to 90’s classics. An unique game set in an equally exotic world that harvests the results of a passionate work: solid lore, fun gameplay, immersive music, intriguing charm. Physics related issues and lack of combat depth defect an otherwise brilliant launch.
First and foremost a game, the anthropology lessons are happy to sit in the background. [Issue#270, p.55]
Mulaka is a traditional action adventure, ispired by Okami, that tries and tell the roots of the Tarahumara culture. The game developed by Lienzo is constrained by an all too linear gameplay, a bland level design and a boring combat system (except the boss fights). It's presented in an elegant package, it can be played peacefully, but it's not bound to leave a mark.
Gorgeous at times and frustrating at others, Mulaka is a beautiful journey with an important social message hidden in a format that is too ambitious.
Solid, Indian, but in all ways a more primitive version of Zelda.
An interesting premise, which ruins itself by unfinished gaming mechanics and being badly transferred into the game? [Issue#284]
