In Abandon Ship you take command of a ship and her crew, exploring a diverse, procedurally generated world and engaging enemy vessels in tactical combat. The game focuses on Age of Sail ships in a Fantasy setting, framed in an Art Style inspired by classic Naval Oil Paintings.
It’s a good pick up and play title that may see you spending a few more hours engaged in seafaring than you realised.
Abandon Ship is generally enjoyable thanks to its entertaining naval combat system. Narratively ambitious, it does suffer primarily at the hands of some contradictory, tedious or lackluster mechanics - mostly throughout its campaign gameplay.
Great visual design and detailed progression system, but gameplay can quickly become repetitive and tedious.
Abandon Ship can’t escape FTL’s shadow. It’s too similar to avoid being judged based on the high bar its spacefaring cousin set, but it falls far too short of that bar for me to like it. Turns out those water pumps aren’t worth manning after all.
