In a bold move, Team Meat has stirred the successful recipe of Super Meat Boy and has delivered a runner-type game in its sequel; SMBF. The procedural level generation algorithm seems to work wonders and the new art-style is modernizes the game. Very interesting ideas in the gameplay mechanics, and increased difficulty promise to keep you engaged for as long as you want to hone your skills. It never ends.

Super Meat Boy Forever asks a lot of the player but also makes sure that they’ve got the tools to master its challenge while also being considerate enough to make each one approachable in bite-sized chunks. A perfectly-run level takes less than a minute and is divided up into sections that are rarely longer than ten seconds, but each second requires focus. And if that focus slips then a retry is instant with little time lost, making it easy to try again, and again, and again until Doctor Fetus finally realizes what a terrible idea it is to antagonize the Meat Boy/Bandage Girl family.

Super Meat Boy Forever’s simplified controls produce a bit of frustration, but this is a game that rewards pushing through the pain for the thrill that comes with completing a harrowing platforming sequence.

Super Meat Boy was an incredibly good platformer, but this sequel is not as good as the original game and the reason is simple: Super Meat Boy Forever is now an autorunner. This makes the Team Meat game even harder than it was, and that affects to the gameplay itself transforming this game in something less fun than it could have been.

In the end, a game that can be walked through by hanging on a bit, without really doing its predecessor honor.

Despite its appeal to nostalgia and the phenomenal success of the first game, Super Meat Boy Forever fails to deliver its promises and ends up undermining the IP and design of the game it's based upon.

While Super Meat Boy is arguably one of the best modern 2d platformers, the same cannot be said about Super Meat Boy Forever. The game abandons much of the identity of the original in order to try and offer players infinite replay value with a more stripped-down gameplay style. But rather than a game that encourages repeat playthrough, Super Meat Boy Forever is more fun to watch than it is to actually play.
