You’ll move a single square at a time or use Auto mode to speed up movement until you engage other Pokémon in turn-based battles—but don’t forget about Pokémon strengths and weaknesses! This version adds gorgeous watercolor-inspired graphics, and more! Get comfortable in being a Pokémon, there’s a lot of work to do.
In truth, it's a game that feels endless despite its relatively short core content.
Pokémon Mistery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX brings back the dungeon-crawler, roguelike type of gameplay of this series, with a new and charming presentation and lost of improvements, although some of the biggest problems of the original game remains. If you've didn't play the original, this a great chance to do it.
Is it still repetitive and dated in some ways? Yes. Is it still charming, addictive, and fun? Heck yes. And with the new art style and improved soundtrack, this game, while not the best Pokemon game out there, still shines.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is an entertaining and quirky adventure that serves well to fill a gap between the next major title release – with revamped and vibrant visuals that accompany a different take on a Pokemon game. With accessibility for both newcomers and experienced players alike, the game keeps it simple but plays well, although the gameplay may leave you wanting more or have you preferring to play in shorter sessions.
Introduction of autoexplore mode shows that even developers realize there's something fundamentally wrong with the formula, but instead of making real improvements, they just duct tape it and call it a day. [Issue#244, p.62]
If you've burned out on Pokemon Sword and Shield and are looking for a not-too-challenging experience to help get through self-isolation and social distancing, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team GX might be the sort of game you need.
A thoroughly uninteresting roguelike that undermines the most compelling elements of both the genre and the Pokémon universe.
