With its great art and challenging scenarios, it was a joy to play Little Big Workshop. Although I hope they introduce a sandbox mode with your own criteria set, it took nothing away from the enjoyment I had the original story line. A must have if you are into you management sims.
Little Big Workshop makes a Henry Ford out of you, requiring of you to plan and execute complex products while also handling machinery issues and your workforce. The stage for this labor drama is set on a tabletop providing comic relief and an authentic aesthetic. You get plenty of hours planning and enjoying the fruits of your intellectual labor for a very nice price.
Give Little Big Workshop just a bit of time, and it’ll hold your attention for hours on end.
The characters and the overall art style are cutesy, sure. But that shouldn’t deter you from the solid build-em-up that’s underneath it all. A great game to get into the resource strategy genre with, and just as good for those that are au fait with the genre already.
For a game designed to introduce people to the genre, Little Big Workshop mostly succeeds. It proves more complicated in places than you’d expect for a beginner friendly title and the smaller scope of the game does constrict its potential. But what we have here is a solid introduction to the simulation genre - one that’s a lot of fun and proves to be quite addictive. It’s a labour of love from Mirage Games and an experience that comes highly recommended.
If you love puzzles and challenges along with building an empire that remains adorable even as you watch your gold accumulate or vanish, you will love Little Big Workshop.
Little Big Workshop's biggest flaws are its generic character designs and a few control issues, but these are greatly overshadowed by how fun this is. It's perfect for people new to the sim genre, allowing players to tackle things at their own pace and make the experience as easy or as difficult as they choose. Veterans will also be able to jump right in and start making their factory to their liking, as well as taking on challenges to push their tiny little company to be the best it can be. Little Big Workshop doesn't reinvent the sim genre, but it fits perfectly into it and brings charm and flair one might not expected from a newer studio.
