Blacksad: Under the Skin is stylish, involving, exciting and despite its animal characters – or because of them – harrowingly humane, a gripping pastime for any mystery buff.

Blacksad: Under the Skin is a great first step of famous noir cat detective into the world of gaming. Even though your experience will be riddled with graphical bugs and some unoriginal design choices, the story and characters will buy you and take you for a fun detective ride for a few hours.

A nice idea for an adventure game, set in a very interesting world that is based on the great Spanish comic of the same name. Blacksad: Under the Skin has many good qualities, like its noir atmosphere and story, alongside some negatives like its pacing issues and a few technical problems.

Blacksad might bot be the thing that we expected it to be, but it is still a good choice for adventure fans, at least for a few hours. There is nothing specifically wrong with Blacksad, but some minor issues, a bit of a slow tempo and of course tons of bugs hurt the overall experience.

Blacksad: Under the Skin has a pleasantly engaging story and fine, if somewhat repetitive, game play mechanics. Unfortunately, the end result just did not seem to be a finished product. Significant patch work will be needed to do justice to the story.

In terms of true adaptation, Blacksad: Under the Skin is quite successful. The story is gripping and well written, with colorful characters, especially thanks to the voice-over and jazzy soundtrack. But in terms of gaming, the gameplay is heavy, the setting is sad, the glitches unbearable and the investigation mechanics too linear, making us want to watch what seems to be a better feature film than a good game experience. This adventure, although full of choices, treats you like a spectator.

Blacksad’s potent atmosphere and several good ideas are completely overshadowed by tons of awful mistakes, terrible controls and zero player impact on the story. This is a huge disappointment - and I’m a fan of the original comic.
