At the hard edge of the galaxy lies a group of planets ruthlessly exploited by militarized corporations. Brimming with loot and violence, this is your home – the Borderlands. Answering the call of the Siren champion Lilith, four Vault Hunters charge head-first into a spray of bullets, blood, and bandits to recover a map to ancient Vaults and prevent a universe-destroying power from falling into the wrong hands.
The rest is history. Fearless renegade mercenaries on the wildest interplanetary treasure hunt of all time. FL4K is a wandering robotic tracker whose cold steel heart warms only for their pet beasts.
Amara beats bad guys into pancakes with her psychic fists. Moze’s best friend is a 10-ton walking killing machine. And Zane, the semi-retired corporate hitman… well, he’s Zane.
Hunting Alone? No problem! Shoot and loot your way through the Borderlands, discovering the region’s untold stories and piling high your increasingly deadly cache of goodies and weapons.
What’s brilliant is how this can feed varying playstyles. Sure, I’m a sniper guy, but I’m currently in love with an assault rifle with a scope that FEELS like a sniper rifle. You might dig pistols, but that pistol-like assault rifle? It’s OK to love that, too.
Borderlands 3 delivers the game fans have been waiting for.
It delivers on its promise and then some, and if you’re someone who enjoys playing video games alone or with friends, and likes having fun whilst doing so, in that respect, Borderlands 3 is perfect.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Borderlands 3 is as safe as sequels come. Its gunplay has hardly changed at all and the humour remains as polarizing as ever, but the package in its entirety works. It’s fast, satisfying and constantly addictive as you hoover up new guns and grow your selection of badass vault hunters.
Borderlands 3 is a great game, but it’s definitely got some technical issues with sadly brings the score down a bit. While my issues weren’t as bad as others I’ve heard about, they’re still annoying at times. However, if you can get past that you’ll find a game that’s more of the same as previous games (especially 2 and pre-sequel), but that’s what made Borderlands great to start with. A great story, reuniting with old friends, and some pretty interesting villains ensures I’ll be coming back to open any more vaults that are found on any planet Gearbox wishes to travel to.
Borderlands 3 is the ultimate example of playing it safe and giving their core fans exactly what they want to see.
Much about Borderlands 3 is different, but nothing feels like it’s actually changed.
