Space Junkies does what games have done for decades: it brings a smile to your face. It’s the kind of game you can either play for one match, or accidentally lose hours to. The matches are fast-paced and frenetic, the weapons are fun and varied, and the customization brings a deeper level to it all. Frankly, it’s fun in a way that is sometimes missing from more serious affairs. It’s already an exceptional experience and if it evolves and gains new content it will become unmissable. Now, if you’ll excuse us, there is a slingshot with our name on it.

With Space Junkies, Ubisoft offers unbridled competitive multiplayer battles. Needless to say that the bet is successful. Lots of action, very little seriousness and no motion sickness. Space Junkies also manages to be both accessible and difficult to master against experienced opponents who will be able to take advantage of the field bonuses, verticality and gadgets, in addition to knowing how to use the right weapon at the right time.

Space Junkies is a technically proficient arena shooter that hits it out of the park in many aspects, including visuals, gun play, immersive environments, and comfort. There's an elephant in the room though: it's a pretty standard arena shooter experience that relies solely on multiplayer, which is still a very delicate thing in VR. While extremely capable, it remains to be seen whether it has the guts to drive user engagement numbers to keep it a healthy and bustling community based on such a well-trodden formula.

Space Junkies possesses a strong foundation. It’s frantic combat and responsive weapons no doubt appeal to those looking to spend quick bursts of game time in VR. Developed in-house by Ubisoft, it’s also one of the best VR experiences one can have in terms of comfort and ease. However, the admission fee alone for this arena shooter might turn away potential fans, and with an already low player population, it remains to be seen whether Space Junkies is here to stay.

The PC version of Space Junkies benefits from a well-balanced experience and great controls. There’s no bots and its content is limited, but if you’re looking from a competitive VR FPS, give Space Junkies a try.

Another interesting and fun enough FPS designed specifically for VR home devices, but the lack of content (game modes, weapons available, etc.) is a really drawback.
