Through Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, experience the emergence of Faith, a brave Runner who uncovers a hidden truth inside the walls of the city of Glass. Through her journey, Faith explores every corner of the city, from the highest, most pristine skyscrapers, to the dark and dingy tunnels that underlie the city. Players must master the environment, using their momentum and timing their combat to fight the oppressiveness of the ruling elite, uncovering the dark secrets behind the city’s beautiful façade.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst offers players the freedom to explore the expanse of the city, discovering a variety of new activities, like ‘Dash’, races from point A to B, environmental puzzles and story missions to complete at their leisure.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a must-have experience that defies the doubters and makes those who had hoped now believe.
Boring or irritating characters and ho-hum story, but the parkour action works. [Aug 2016]
Despite its flaws, Catalyst is a worthy concept of the game, and the improvement from the last one to this shows that it can mature into a quality game franchise, beyond its concept. The sense of scale and the way the world has been designed for travel makes for a fantastic experience.
Catalyst would be an easier recommend even with the clunky controls if it had been sold cheaper, perhaps as episodic content. As it stands, this is mostly for fans, and even then, I caution the inevitable frustration that will surely come from running through a city literally made of glass.
With all the hype of last years news that this game was being made, I was sadly disappointed in how it turned out in the end.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst fails in being the grand series return fans were hoping for, mainly due to a boring and frustrating combat system, a forgettable story and a lifeless city. What's left is a charismatic main character, great buildings architecture, a good traversal system and the hope for a more inspired and entertaining sequel.
As a long-time fan of the original Mirror’s Edge, I was happy to hear about a new game in the series, but I should have been prepared for the worst. To be fair, I may be exaggerating. Catalyst may not be a terrible game to most people. In fact, it’s a totally playable, completely okay, thoroughly mediocre title.
