On Rusty Trails is a modern, illustrative platformer, set in a world constantly reacting to your change in identity. You are Elvis. Home owner, triangular metal person and lover of dryness.
A sudden thunderstorm leaves your house dissolved into a pile of rubble. Only lightning-fast reactions will keep you from a looming rusty funeral. Don your Shifty Suit to incognito yourself and walk among suspicious hairy folk.
Perilous puzzles and prejudiced platforms will bar your way in this deceptively deep gaming dish.
If Pixar made a platformer, this would be it.
If you are a player that enjoys exploring while maneuvering your way through a dangerous platforming world, then On Rusty Trails is sure to deliver a memorable experience.
By focusing on the gameplay experience first, On Rusty Trails has put together a rather simple yet cunningly effective game.
Extremely successful platformer whose greatest weakness is short game time. Advantages balance this problem fully with incredible playfulness, great logic puzzles and mainly delicious feeling of pure jumping.
Rusty Trails may seem like the next indie platformer, but this is way above average. It keeps on coming with fresh and new challenges and the story is intertwined with the gameplay perfectly. It's such a pity the controls are not optimal and the ending is very sudden.
On Rusty Trails is a refreshing side-scroller with a handful of intriguing mechanics and a clever level design. It doesn't offer any originality, but it's very well-made and mostly enjoyable in the medium term.
A solid game that fails to break new ground but was obviously developed by people who understand how platformers should be designed. [09/2016, p.55]
