Mighty No.
Mighty No. 9 isn’t perfect, but it is something that anyone who grew up loving any kind of Mega Man game should check out.
Mighty No. 9 is an extremely niche product. The efforts of the developers do not reflect the millionaire crowdfunding campaign that gave birth to the game, but the final result is still more than decent and can be really fun for those who love this videogame genre.
Even with dull visuals and a little too much reliance on the past, in a world where Capcom has seemingly forgotten that the Blue Bomber exists, Mighty No. 9’s enthralling boss battles make it an okay substitute to fill that void for the time being.
Frustrating to play and a pale imitation of Mega Man, Mighty No. 9 is unlikely to command the same reverence as its older cousin.
It was certainly compelling enough for me to want to finish the game. There are also plenty of challenges to help hone platforming skills which ultimately do help in finishing the regular levels. As a game that is clearly supposed to appease Mega Man fans who will likely never get a new game in the series ever again, it falls spectacularly short of their expectations, particularly those that assisted in the crowdfunding campaign.
It’s an OK game; completing bosses does feel nice considering all the crap you just went through and overcoming the risk of having to redo it all again.
Good Lord, so far I think this was my Tony Hawk of 2016 despite me being slightly more generous.
