The Dwarven stars are slowly dying-- putting the race at the edge of extinction. Deliverance is poised upon three Dwarven astronauts who are sent on an expedition to find a new star in the depths of the Endless Stone. Take control of Forcer, Smashfist, and Shadow as they explore the unknown territories of the stone universe while meeting new civilizations and ancient monsters from the deep layers of space.
We Are The Dwarves is an action-based tactical adventure with active pause (extreme slowdown of time) placing you in control of three Dwarven astronauts. Forcer is capable of ranged destruction, and timely set-up exectution. Smashfist, a brute at heart, gets up close and personal with rage worth avoiding.
Shadow stays just where you'd expect him to, launching deadly successive assassinations and precision archery from afar. As a trio, combine each dwarfs attack styles into orchestrated destruction against your foe.
Whale Rock Games has put together quite a doozy for hardcore RTS fans. It’s definitely not fitting for a casual strategy gamer like me, or those who prefer fewer moving parts in their RTSes. But even with the ragequit difficulty, it’s hard to deny that the game mechanics themselves are as solid and fair as the environments are gorgeous.
We are the Dwarves is a Challenging strategic experience, but sometimes you feel restricted in your actions.
Challenging but funny game with interesting concept and a few issues uses dwarf race in an unusual way.
Dwarves and astronauts, a strange and unique combination for a potentially original exponent of the RTS’ genre. Despite the interesting premise We Are the Dwarves has too many flaws, both technical and gameplay-wise to overtake the sufficiency.
Where We are the Dwarves fails to deliver is mission balance, plain and simple.
Whale Rock games have done a great job of making an engaging, challenging and rewarding game (if not the deepest in story-terms) but the difficulty makes it pretty prohibitive for most gamers.
I was thinking long and hard if I should ignore this game or trash it. But in the end it cost me too much time and too much nerves. It starts well: The presentation reminds you of Blizzard and I like the idea of slow paced progress. But when it comes to balance or rather: lack thereof it shows you how far Whale Rock Games actually is from Blizzard.
