Legends of Eisenwald is an original mix of RPG and strategy. Gather your troops and embark on a dangerous journey to carve your name into the legends of the grim lands of Eisenwald where all the supernatural superstitions of medieval times are found to be true. Legends of Eisenwald PC is set in a believable medieval land featuring supernatural elements.
Rather than the high fantasy worlds of elves and dragons, Eisenwald is based on the concept of how the world would look if all the medieval superstitions turned out to be true. You’ll encounter witchcraft, terrifying creatures and mystery on your journey but the world is driven primarily by human motivations and politics rather than mystical powers.
Legends of Eisenwald is one of the biggest and most pleasant surprises that we engaged with this summer. Intriguing storytelling, thrilling plot twists and ambiguous morale decisions are wrapped up in an excellent medieval/ feudal environment. The simple yet addictive turn based battle system, the many upgradeable military units and a well built economic system, raise the gameâs status to âtotally recommendedâ for the genreâs fans.
Legends of Eisenwald will certainly offer tens if not hundreds of hours of fun for those who are willing to understand its world and mechanics, and it will be interesting to see how the team at Aterdux expands the formula of the game in the future.
Every aspect of the game could stand to be improved a little: economic system is superfluous, leveling is hard at the beginning and much easier towards the end, and itâs always weird to take a castle with just a bunch of soldiers. But the atmosphere trumps everything. After all, itâs been a long time since anyone tried to make an RPG in at least quasi-historical setting. [Sept 2015, p.66]
Strong storytelling and sheer novelty make guiding Heinrich and his pals around the dark forests of old-time Deutschland enthralling...even if you do miss the magic missiles and elves every so often.
Medieval RPG strategy, which is not exactly spotless, but under its spots the efficient and sturdy tactical core is hiding.
The game really never settles on what it is or what it wants to achieve - and with a story that is often confusing (or entirely forgettable),the good bits fail to shine through.
Legends of Eisenwald tries hard to challenge the competition. But as a roleplaying game it is either corny or boring while the turn based tactics are standard respectively borderline uninteresting.
